Afrijet suspends flights between São Tomé and Príncipe

The airline Afrijet has decided to suspend air routes between São Tomé and Príncipe, Libreville and Douala, for the 2022 summer season, after six years of regular service, during which it always guaranteed two flights per week, as they stated, citing, due to a «deteriorated and hostile operating climate» and «defamatory statements» by some officials of ENSA, the country's National Airports and Air Safety Company.

This decision stemmed from the seizure of an Afrijet aircraft, initiated by the president of ENASA's Debt Recovery Commission, Arlindo Fernandes, over a debt of more than $200,000 in airport taxes accumulated since 2016.

The suspension of Afrijet's service ensures that, nowadays, there are only two more foreign airlines to promote continuity in travel to and from São Tomé and Príncipe, namely: TAP Air Portugal and TAAG Angola Airlines.
